“Scoliosis” which cause the spine to curve sideways (often in an “S” or “C” shape), occurs most commonly among children in late childhood and early adolescence, when they are growing especially fast. The condition affects an estimated 2% to 3% of people on this country, mostly children and primarily girls. Scoliosis is often spotted on vacation or the warmer months of the year when children wear less clothing that hides the condition. Parents should look for uneven shoulders, uneven wrists, one or both hips that are raised unusually high, slanted rib cages, and changes in the texture of their children’s skin overlying the spine. The chiropractor can help with a diagnosis and determine the degree of curvature. Chiropractic adjustments and therapies help to improve form and induce mobility into the joints.  These improvements can decrease pain, increase comfort, and improve posture. Chiropractors can also address other symptoms or issues that patient may be experiencing and help prevent further degradation of the spine.
