Herniated discs are often blamed for “sciatica”, the painful condition caused by pressure exerted on the sciatic nerve that branches from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg. As the nerve is pinched or otherwise irritated, pain radiates down the lower extremities. However, so called “bulging” discs are not only the culprit. Sciatica may also result from “piriformis syndrome”, a condition involving the piriformis muscle in the buttocks that can compress or irritate the sciatic nerve. The chiropractic approach to diagnosing piriformis syndrome includes a full evaluation of the spine, pelvis, and related musculature. Restoring the function of the pelvic and spinal joints helps the muscle to relax.

Chiropractors are a great place to start when you have sciatica. Chiropractic adjustments aim to re-align the spine and take the pressure off the sciatica. Chiropractic adjustments aim to realign the spine and take the pressure off of the sciatic nerve for pain relief. One the pressure is off, the body can begin to heal itself from within. We regularly hear from many people who have never been to a chiropractor. If you’ve never had chiropractic care, you might be surprised about how it can help you improve your health. To schedule an appointment please call 860-621-2225. Chiropractic care is usually covered under most insurance plans, whether private, Medicare or Medicaid. Our clinic is located at 200 Queen Street., Southington
