One reason why chiropractic treatment may be so effective in treating tension headaches is that there is a connection between tension in neck muscles and the brain. There is, in fact, a tiny web of fibrous tissue connecting a muscle in the back of the neck with the brain’s “dura mater,” which is the outermost fibrous membrane covering the brain and the spinal cord. When this small muscle in the neck is moved, the connecting tissue pulls on the dura mater and causes it to contract. Because the dura mater is abundant in nerves and produces intense pain when irritated, tense neck muscles may lead to tension headaches. If so, chiropractic treatment may effectively resolve the tension and the pain.

Do you suffer with tension headaches? We combine the art of “hands on” healing with modern medical science to restore normal joint neurological function and improve your overall health. We’re located at 200 Queen St. Southington, where we do not use drugs and address the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms. To schedule an appointment please call 860-621-2225. We offer affordable healthcare for the whole family.

P.S.  Tension headaches may result from stress-induced muscle spasms in the upper cervical spine that cause irritation of nerves and constriction of blood vessels in the neck, which help supply blood to the dura mater of the brain.
